Tricia Stiles

1634 Handley Avenue

Kitchen Description:

The Stiles kitchen is part of a later addition to the 1979's era home.  The former kitchen now serves as a breakfast and keeping room that flows directly into the newer space.  There are hardwood floors throughout and both areas are painted a soft blue that was selected to compliment the blue and white china depicted in the custom window treatments.

The kitchen features white painted cabinets with simple recessed panels.  Two upper cabinets and three lower cabinets provide accessible storage on lazy Susan shelving.  Two additional lower cabinets feature sliding shelves for easy access to cookware, while a slim cabinet next to the stove offers storage for large platters and cookie sheets.

The Kitchenaid refrigerator, stove and dishwasher are stainless steel with black trim.  Countertops are made of polished black granite and a white-tiled backsplash blends seamlessly with the upper cabinets.  The stove hood and the panel under the sink have been painted with a striking Asian motif on a red background.  Three red stools pull up under the kitchen peninsula to provide seating for informal dining or talking with the cook.  Ample food and appliance storage is provided by a pantry while an antique bookcase hold s the owner's cookbooks.  Illuminating the cooking area are a chandelier, can lights, and under mounted cabinet lights.  Additional light for the space is provided by two windows as well as a glass-paneled door leading to the back porch.

In the combination breakfast and keeping room a round table is surrounded by four Hitchcock chairs while a camelback sofa and two wing chairs provide seating conducive to conversation.  A Henkel-Harris corner cabinet, serving chest and mirror add a formal note to the space which also includes an antique desk, black lacquer coffee table, and carved Chinese chest.  Custom draperies for the room's tall windows and a large vintage Persian rug add the finishing touches to the room.
