Description:
Our home was built in 1940 and added onto in the 70's. The renovation goals were to not only update the kitchen , but to increase the overall size of the kitchen to reflect the size of the enlarged home. Fortunately, we were able to capture space from a room originally designed as a sewing room. We removed load bearing walls, enlarged windows, and opened up the entire space to an existing second staircase. Probably the most unique element in the kitchen is the Lacanche professional range. Handcrafted in the heart of France's wine and gastronome region of Burgundy, the fully enameled ivory Lacanche offers superb sear-to-simmer heat control. It features solid brass knobs, burners, fittings and drawer pulls as well as a cast iron simmer plate, a traditional oven and warming cupboard. We love the function of this range, but most enjoy the classic "homey" feel it creates. Other items in the kitchen include a built-in 42-inch French door refrigerator, a large double bowl stainless steel sink with integrated drainboard, "silver galaxy" gray granite countertops and a custom made corner upholstered banquette. The cabinets are painted ivory with inset doors. The large island is made of cherry wood with a maple countertop. Renovation is always tedious and challenging, but we are very pleased with the results. We fully enjoy our new kitchen every day, as both Scott and I enjoy cooking. Of course, our kids love eating in it!
