Description:
Rosemont Manor, built circa 1811, is perhaps best known as the former residence of Harry Flood Byrd, former Governor and United States Senator from Virginia. The current owners, Sue and Randy Jones, have completed a thorough restoration of the home and property over the past eleven years. The kitchen, which includes a separate butler's pantry, was redone with new cabinetry selected to complement the period look and be compatible with the old cabinets, only one of which remains intact. The main kitchen has an eat-in section, and includes an old wood stove manufactured by the Rosemont Stove Company (no direct relation to the home's name) found coincidentally, by Mr. Jones at an antique store in Galveston. Texas. Both rooms have weed floors, salvaged, stained and accented with a diamond pattern by Mrs. Jones. The butler's pantry includes an old fashioned copper sink, replete with drain grooves for hand dishwashing and drying. There is also a "hidden" silver safe, created from an actual bank vault. The wooden countertops were revealed after multiple layers of 1950's era Formica was stripped away and refinished to the original look. The dishes, decorations, and hallway hanging quilt are all changed four or more times yearly to reflect the appropriate season. Finally, there is a history wall showing various aspects of the house and grounds collected by the Joneses during their stewardship of Rosemont.
